Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula Wild Habitat. As it’s common name suggests, Aphonopelma seemanni hails primarily from Costa Rica. It is believed that the original specimens of this tarantula were found by Berthold Seemann, a German botanist working on a plant-collecting expedition.

“Guatemala striped knee.” Both species are brightest blue immediately post molt, with fading over months. The next molt restores blue color. Pickard-Cambridge, F. O. (1897a). Recent authors have also tended to refer it to the genus Sciades following Marceniuk and Menezez (2007) but this change apparently requires additional study so we have not followed it here.

They are readily available in many pet shops for Aphonopelma seemanni (Nicaragua) for sale, captive bred, native to subtropical Central America. Hardy, with blue color most intense post molt.

The Aphonopelma seemanni is not a picky eater. It has very straightforward dietary choices to regular spiders of its kind. Adults usually eat a variety of insects, namely grasshoppers, locusts, and crickets.
